Capital J Jerusalem

Today is the first time in the challenge that I have written about a world capital when a state capital with that letter was available. In fact , there are 3, Jackson Mississippi, Jefferson City Missouri, and Juneau, Alaska. To my knowledge I have not visited any of these capitals, and if I did it was just driving by or fueling up on a family vacation in the 70’s. Nothing else comes to mind when I think of Jefferson City or Jackson and Juneau reminds me of mnemonic devices for memorizing capitals and I wrote about that on Thursday. So, I started looking up world Capitals.

Jerusalem is very appropriate the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Approximately 1987 years ago Jerusalem was the Earthly epicenter of God’s redemption tale for manind. The current Corona pandemic has reminded me for some reason of what it might have been like at that time in history. I was reminded recently of these lyrics from the Song BeYe Glad…

In these days of confused situations
In this night of a restless remorse
When the heart and the soul of a nation
Lay wounded and cold as a corpse

Be Ye Glad – Michael Kelly Blanchard

Those lyrics sound like they could have been written yesterday. The first verse ends in a more hopeful note and is followed by an exuberant chorus with a life changing message

From the grave of the innocent Adam
Comes a song bringing joy to the sad
Oh, your cry has been heard and the ransom
Has been paid up in full, be ye glad

Oh, be ye glad
Oh, be ye glad
Every debt that you’ve ever had
Has been paid up in full by the grace of the Lord
Be ye glad, be ye glad, be ye glad

I know most of my a to z ramblings are just that. But my faith informs much of what I say, do and feel and how I view the world. As dark and as difficult as things seem now is at least as dark and difficult it was t in Jerusalem that Saturday before the first Easter. But because of Easter there is always hope and reason to be glad in the most confusing of situations.

  1. I actually have a card from Jerusalem in Israel. Well, it’s of the Western Wall and was sent from outside of Jerusalem, but it’s still Israel. I love that postcard.
