Sherman Brothers A to Z: V is for Veritable

Disclaimer: This post does not containy any endgame spoilers. I am writing this A to Z challenge post at 10:40 p.m. because I just watched Endgame tonight. So I could include endgame spoilers if I wanted. I personally think Templeton the Rat would gobbled them up before they could get spoiled.

Song; A Veritable Smorgasboard

Film: Charlotte’s Web

Year: 1973

Notable Lyrics: All. So I’ll break with my format for the week and put them all here.

Goose:

A fair is a veritable smorgasbord-orgasbord-orgasbord

After the crowds have ceased.

Each night, when the lights go out, it can be found, on the ground, all around,

Oh! What a rat-ly feast!

Templeton:

Will I find

Melon rinds and bits of hot dogs, cookie crumbs and rotten cotton candy,

Melted ice cream, mustard drippings, moldy goodies everywhere.

Goose: Yes! Yes!

Lots of popcorn, apple cores, banana peels and soggy sandwiches,

And gobs of gorgeous gook to gobble at the fair!

Goose: Yes! Yes! Yes!

Templeton and Goose:

A fair is a veritable smorgasbord-orgasbord-orgasbord

After the gates are shut.

Each night, when the lights go out, it can be found, on the ground, all around,

That’s where a rat can glut, glut, glut, glut!

How I became familiar eith the work: I’m not sure if I read the book, heard the book read aloud at my school, or saw the film at my local library first. I know I did all of those in short order. I also remember watching the film on t.v. multiple times. I prefer the book to the film. But just by a thread, whisker or nose depending on what character I am thinking of at the time.

I have tried to emulate Charlotte by being a better friend than writer. I’m not much like Wilbur, because I’m quite a ham and he lived out his days without being butchered. Now that’s a spoiler!

  1. I was hoping for Endgame spoilers, but I’ll settle for Templeton the Rat because he was my favorite character in the book when I was a kid.
